Guides to help you slow down to the speed of wonder

An Invitation to Visio Divina

  • Listening: As you continue to look, notice what stirs within you — feelings, memories, questions, or associations. Let them unfold naturally and make other connections. You might wonder:

    • What do I notice or feel as I look at this image?

    • What does it remind me of or make me curious about?

    • If I were to describe it in a word or phrase, what would it be?

    • How might this image speak to me, or of God, in what I’m experiencing today?

  • Responding: Take a moment to respond to what you’ve noticed in a way that feels authentic to you. You might pray, write, make art, or move your body. Keep listening — might God be offering something to you through this?

  • Resting: When you feel ready, return your gaze to the image. Rest in the love and grace of God that is present within and around you. Trust that this grace will continue to unfold beyond this moment.

  • Centering: Take a few slow breaths, easing into a rhythm that helps your body and mind settle. Gently open yourself to the presence of God and the moment just as it is.

  • Seeing: Sit with the photograph for a few minutes, letting your eyes move over it slowly. Notice the shapes, colors, textures, and details. Allow yourself to linger with what draws your attention.

An Invitation to Lectio Divina

  • Listening: As you read the poem a second time, notice what words, phrases, or images stand out to you. What do they evoke in you? What do you notice in your body? You might wonder:

    • What images, memories, or feelings stir in response?

    • What does it remind me of or make me curious about?

    • How might these words speak to me, or of God, in what I’m experiencing today?

  • Responding: Read the poem again, and this time, take a moment to respond to what you’ve noticed in a way that feels authentic to you. You might pray, write, make art, or move your body. Keep listening — might God be offering something to you through this?

  • Resting: When you feel ready, read the poem once more. Rest in the love and grace of God that is present within and around you. Trust that this grace will continue to unfold beyond this moment.

  • Centering: Take a few slow breaths, easing into a rhythm that helps your body and mind settle. Gently open yourself to the presence of God and the moment just as it is.

  • Reading: Read the poem once, slowly, just taking in the whole.
